8 Thoughtful Mother’s Day Gifts for Singaporean Mums

Mother's Day Gift Guide 2016

Every year, I rack my head thinking of gifts for my mum on this day. Part of me rebels at the commercial aspect of this day, yet part of me is grateful for this reminder to spare a thought for mum, and get her a little something to wish her all the health in the world.

If you have the same dilemma as I do, I hope this Thoughtful Mother’s Day Gift Guide will be of help to you. I wanted to add a local element to it, so you’ll find that the gifts featured here all come sellers based in Singapore.

They cater to a range of budgets, but more importantly, are all gifted with thought and care, because mums deserve no less than that.

  1. Condiments

Treat mum to some yummy goodness from Shermay’s Singapore Fine Food.

Why not get her some sauces based on Shermay’s family recipes and Singapore’s rich culinary heritage. There’s a range of sauces ranging from meat marinades to chili sauce Peranakan style that will make mum’s taste buds tingle with joy, for sure.

You can get them from Naiise: https://naiise.com/collections/shermays-singapore-fine-food

  1. Yoga Mat

Yoga Mat

Is mum into yoga or pilates? Then get her a yoga mat! Even if she’s not into these sports, you can still get her a mat and encourage her to do some simple stretching on the mat. It’ll help with flexibility and improve her general health.

My friend alerted me to this MEGA sports gear store by Decathlon that sells everything you ever need for sports like yoga, basketball, horseriding, cycling and more. Prices are reasonable, but be warned, that place is a kids’ magnet. Expect to stay some time there if you bring your kids along.

For those who want to visit, the address is 750A Chaichee Technopark #01-01, 469001.

  1. One-of-a-kind Tea

With teas named Pandan Chiffon, Nasi Lemak and mango Sticky Rice, you know that mum’s taste buds are in for a treat. Ette Tea is a boutique tea company from Singapore and their teas are thoughtfully created after much experimentation and numerous tastings.

I’ve tried these teas myself. They not only smell good, but taste great too.

My son’s favourite is the Lychee Konnyaku tea and he has a cup whenever he’s in his fancy Englishman mood.

They have Mini Mixes so that you can get a sample of teas for mum to try. Check them out here: http://www.ettetea.com/

  1. Candles

The term “working mothers” is really a redundant one, don’t you think? What else do mothers do but work? 🙂

Now help mummy relax by getting her some soothing candles from To Be Calm. I truly buy in to their philosophy that the smells in our homes and offices can evoke strong emotions and has the power to put us in the right frame of mind to achieve whatever we have to.

Most mums I know won’t think twice about getting something special for their loved ones but are unlikely to spend money on candles for themselves. So it’s up to you to pamper them this Mother’s Day. Check out To be Calm’s website here: https://www.tobecalmgroup.com/
