How the tennis bracelet got its name

The tennis bracelet has been around for a long time, although it was previously not known as such. A tennis bracelet, once called an eternity bracelet, is essentially a bracelet of with similar-sized diamonds embedded on its surface. It was popular long before it was known as a tennis bracelet, but once it was termed as a tennis bracelet, its popularity soared even more as it was seen as a sporty and chic accessory for any self-respecting fashionista.

It was in 1987, during the U.S. Tennis Championships that the tennis bracelet was crowned as such. The tennis player, Chris Evert, who won 18 Grand Slam singles championships and three doubles titles, wore an eternity bracelet that became unclasped during a match. She requested for the match to be suspended while she pick up the diamonds in her bracelet that were strewn all over the floor. From then on, Chris Evert was not known just for her poise and powerful backhand, but also for giving the Tennis Bracelet its modern name.

Unlike bangles or other types of bracelets, the tennis bracelet is flexible and lightweight, making it an ideal choice for women wanting to adorn their wrists with a delicate accessory. Traditionally, tennis bracelets are made with yellow gold or white gold with diamonds. The diamonds can take on various cuts and can be set in many different ways.

These days, there are many more materials used to make tennis bracelets. Pink gold, also known as rose gold, is a very popular choice or metal. Other than diamonds, people have also started to use coloured gemstones like sapphire, ruby and even cubic zirconia to replace the diamonds. Whichever materials used, tennis bracelets often add a touch of class and elegance to any outfit.

Because tennis bracelets are so easy to match with any outfit, they make popular gifts for Chirstmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and for graduations.

If you really want to wear them while playing tennis or other sports, we would suggest getting those with more secure clasps to avoid any Chris Evert type of bracelet malfunction.

If you are looking for a timeless piece of classic jewellery to add to your jewellery collection, you should really consider getting a tennis bracelet.
